The Office of the Second Judicial District Attorney improves the quality of life of the
citizens of Bernalillo County by reducing crime through thoughtful enforcement of the law and the
development of a criminal justice system. The Office is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer
and is seeking applicants to serve as an Attorney within the Diversion Division.
The Diversion Prosecutor will work with various entities within the Second Judicial District Attorney’s
Office, to identify lower-level offenders to determine the best course of action in reducing recidivism
for the specific offender. The Diversion Prosecutor will work cooperatively with both Metropolitan
Court and District Court to divert the offender through various Specialty and Diversion Courts - both
within Metropolitan and District Court - or through non-court alternatives, both inside and outside the
criminal justice system. Ideally, the Attorney will have in-depth knowledge of the root causes of
certain crime, to include mental health disorders and substance use disorders. Schedule may vary and include on-call duties and occasional evening or weekend work.

* Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- This position requires comprehensive and current knowledge and skills in the areas of criminal prosecution, rules of evidence and rules of criminal procedure; public relations; organization and supervision; basic computer skills including working knowledge of office systems; fully effective trial skills; ability to draft legal documents; ability to work effectively with other criminal agencies; ability to communicate effectively; ability to research/analyze information and situations; knowledge of various mental health and substance use disorders is important, but not mandatory.
- Significant prosecutorial discretion on cases within assigned caseload.
- Maintain and track data related to diversion program participation and recidivism outcomes; compile and analyze statistics to support case management, program evaluation, and office reporting needs.
* Requirements:
- J. D. degree and current license to practice law in New Mexico.
* Preferred Qualifications:
- Licensed attorney in New Mexico, plus a minimum of two (2) years as a practicing attorney, or one (1) year as a prosecuting attorney.

- Work is performed in an office environment as well as significant work out of the office and in the community.
